During the school year we strongly focus on literacy skills. It is an important component in our Kindergarten year. We have what is called a Work Board which is a set of icons that students can look at know what task needs to be completed. Students are busy in small groups completing each of the assignments as I take another small group to the back table to do guided reading. This is a time where I can work with students based on their needs and learning goals.
B.E.A.R. Books! Be Excited About Reading
Every day your child will take a book to put in their bag and bring home. This is something the students do independently first thing in the morning. My expectation is the book is read after school and then brought back so your child can pick out a new one the next day. Don't sweat it if you miss a night or even two. I know life can get busy. Just have your child keep that book and when they have read it bring it back and pick out a new one!
